St Serf’s triumph in Edinburgh one-act festival

St Serf’s Players dominated the Edinburgh District heats of the Scottish Community Drama Association’s 79th annual one-act play competition, held at St Serf’s Hall, Goldenacre, on Saturday.
The company’s Clark team came first overall in the heat with Alas Poor Geoffrey by Alistair Falkner, earning them a place in the second round of the competition. They were also awarded the accolade for best production and best stage presentation. Another of the company’s three entries, Gloria’s Angel, also by Alistair Falkner, won the Bangholm team the award for the Best Moment In Theatre.
Coming second in the competition, and joining the St Serf’s Clerk team in the next round, were the Kirkgate team from Leitheatre with A Time For Farewells by Damien Trasler. The Sunnyside team from Leitheatre came third with Specter by Don Nigro.

Adjudication was by the Fife-based playwright Ron Nicol. Also appearing in the competition where Holy Cow Performing Arts with Shadjam by company member Vasudev Menon, the Livingston Players with A Dogs Life by Pam Valentine and the St Serf’s Afton team with This Santa Thing by Clare Scott. The Mercators’ production of The Queensferry Diligence, an adaptation by Alan Richardson of Chapter One of Sir Walter Scott’s The Antiquary, was a non-competitive entry
The Eastern Divisional Final will be held at the Howden Park Centre, Livingston from 17 to 19 March at 7pm. Tickets £10 (£8 students) per night or £24, (£21) for all three nights.
