Edinburgh’s youngest youth theatre company, A Team Productions, is auditioning this weekend at Ocean Terminal’s Community Space for their forthcoming production of Sweeney Todd.

There are two audition slots available on Saturday 28 September 2013: one at 10.30am and the other at 3pm. The company is aimed at performers aged 11-18.

Those selected to audition for a principle role you may be required to attend call backs. This will be between 1pm and 5pm, at the YMCA Edinburgh, Acorn Centre on Sunday September 29.

Cast rehearsals will be twice weekly: Wednesdays and Sundays, and the venue will be in North Edinburgh.

Sweeney Todd will run at the St Brides Community Centre in Dalry, Monday 17 – Saturday 22 February, 2014 – during the school holiday. The cast will need to be available for additional dress and technical rehearsals in the runup to the show.

Audition places can be booked by emailing ateamproductionschair@live.co.uk

Vision

The company began life in February 2013 when, inspired by their backgrounds in theatre and youth work, a small group met to discuss and develop an ethos and a strategy, to build foundations for what later would become ‘A-Team Productions’.

According to their website: “Our vision was to put together a new youth theatre company which would change the image of Amateur Dramatics and youth entertainment. We wanted to encompass new ideas and experience of what has worked in the past to create something which would not only benefit the lives of young people in Edinburgh but the wider community as a whole.

“Our ethos is simple: to promote teamwork, equality and encourage individuals with raw and unnourished potential to get involved, give it a go and grow under our roof.”

In April it was announced that A-Team Productions would be granted funding to run productions for 3 years with a generous fund from The Big Lottery. The Young Start programme will ensure that A-Team has the necessary funds to put on an extravagant show without the families having to pay a penny.
