Beatles Show goes out on tour

Edinburgh-based Siege Perilous productions is taking its 2015 EdFringe hit, A Life With The Beatles, out on tour.

The play concerns the relationship of Neil Aspinall with the Fab Four. He joined them as their driver in 1961, aged 19, and continued to work with them for 46 years until 2007, when he stepped down as CEO of Apple Corps, the band’s corporate conglomerate.

Written by Davide Verazani and directed by Andy Corelli, the one-man show stars Ian Sexon. He depicts the progress of the band from their initial formation to the period after their split, along the way jumping into the characters of John, Paul, George and Ringo, manager Brian Epstein and Producer George Martin.

Corelli told Æ that the show is such an enjoyable and entertaining story, he was “delighted” to get the opportunity to revive it for a Scottish tour, opening at the Scottish Storytelling Centre and travelling from Dumfries to Irvine, and Biggar to Nairn, Skye and Thurso.

“The show went down very well in 2015,” says Corelli, “especially with The British Beatles Fan Club, but I can always find things to improve or at least change. I wouldn’t want to just duplicate it either; things shouldn’t stand still.”

Corelli has been discussing different ideas for staging the show on the tour, with producer Patrina Finch and set designer Kirstin Rodger, which has brought a new look and emphasis to it.

Staging

“This has led to different staging,” says Corelli, “some new emotional emphasis, a cleaner set and changes to some of the music choices – some through personal choice, some for copyright reasons!

“We’re looking forward to taking Neil and The Beatles here there and everywhere back to their touring Scottish roots. It’ll be fab!”
