Adult roles announced for Billy Elliot tour

Billy Elliot The Musical will return to Edinburgh in September 2016 with Annette McLaughlin playing the key role of Mrs Wilkinson, the ballet teacher.

This will be the professional Scottish debut of the show, which is adapted from the 2000 film Billy Elliot. It will be over five years after the show had its amateur debut in Edinburgh, in 2010, with Billy Youth Theatre.

The UK tour of Billy Elliot the Musical opens in Plymouth in February 2016. It arrives in Edinburgh on September 20 for a five week stay.

Like the film, the show is set in a northern mining town against the background of the 1984/’85 miners’ strike. It follows Billy’s journey from boxing to ballet class where he discovers a passion for dance that inspires his family and whole community and changes his life forever.

Joining McLaughlin in the bigger named roles are Martin Walsh who will play Dad, Scott Garnham who will play Tony and Andrea Miller who will play Grandma.

The other named cast is Jonathan Alden (Big Davey), Leo Atkin (George), Luke Cinque-White (Older Billy), Nikki Gerrard (Dead Mam), Abbie Louise Harris (Sharon Percy), Daniel Page (Mr Braithwaite) and Georgina Parkinson (Tina Harmer/Head Ballet Girl).

The young cast for the Billy Elliot the Musical tour will be announced in January.
