New summer performance experience seeks cast

Beyond Broadway Productions has announced open auditions for Bring It On: The Musical, the new youth performance experience tp be staged at the Edinburgh King’s in July 2016.

Auditions for the show will be held in January at Dance Base and are open to actors, singers, dancers, acrobats and cheerleaders who will be aged between 12 and 25 years old on 1 July 2016.

bringiton_full_hor_4cThe musical is loosely based on the 2000 film Bring It On. It focuses on the competitive world of cheerleading and over-the-top team rivalries in American High Schools, when cheer-royalty Campbell is forced to change schools just as she is about to be appointed captain of the squad.

The show features an original story by Jeff Whitty, of Avenue Q fame. It is composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights, Hamilton) and Tom Kitt (American Idiot, If/Then) and features lyrics by Amanda Green (High Fidelity) and Miranda. It was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2013.

The production will be staged at the King’s Theatre, Edinburgh on Friday 22/ Saturday 23 July, 2016. Rehearsals will take place from Saturday 9 to Friday 22 July. Open auditions will be held on Sunday 17 January 2016 at Dance Base – with re-calls for the principal cast on Sunday 28 February at the Festival Theatre Studio and the final principal cast announcement in early March.

audition workshops

There are a dozen named roles in the principal cast, with Beyond Broadway expecting to cast up to 100 performers in the whole ensemble.

Auditions are free, although successful auditionees taking part in the production will be expected to pay a fee of £210. Audition slots can be booked in advance through the Beyond Broadway website.

The auditions will take the form of workshops in singing, dancing or acting, with an opportunity to show off particular skills that may be appropriate to the production, such as gymnastics, cheerleading or instruments.

After the workshops there will be chance to chat with the creative team and, if applying for singing roles, auditionees may be asked to sing a solo section of a piece that has been taught during the day.
