Rapunzel hangs out on Brunton’s Silver Screen

The Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh is determined to put on panto this year, so has created a film version of Rapunzel The Pantomime, screening in its cinema over Christmas – and available to stream online.

Rapunzel The Pantomime – “a film for all the family” – is produced by The Brunton with the creative team it has successfully worked with over recent years: writer and director John Binnie, designer Robin Mitchell and MD Tommie Travers.

They are rejoined by local panto favourites Graham Crammond in the big dresses as Jessie Jobseeker, Wendy Seager who will be donning her gown of villainy as Sorceress, Eildih Weir dropping the locks as Rapunzel and Ross Donnachie letting rip as Jammy Dodger.

The story of Rapunzel who was locked in a tower before being rescued by her pal Jammy, is told in fun panto style. Full of songs and slapstick, local references and colourful characters it has been filmed on the Brunton stage by local film outfit D Fie Foe.

set in East Lothian

The Brunton says: “We work each year, with a team of creative people, to produce a unique pantomime which is set in East Lothian. This year is no exception. Rapunzel The Pantomime – a family film, was created and filmed safely on stage at The Brunton giving audiences a chance to enjoy a Brunton pantomime this Christmas!”:

Musselburg, like the rest of East Lothian, will be going into level 2 under the Covid-19 regulations from Tuesday 24 November, so the Brunton is able to open its cinema screen again, even if it is not yet able to stage live theatre.

The Brunton has received funding from the Scottish Government’s Performing Arts Venue Relief Fund, administered by Creative Scotland.
