Day lights on Chicago
Darren Day joins Chicago tour coming to Playhouse in September
Darren Day will play Billy Flynn in the UK tour of Chicago which is now due to open at the Glasgow Kings on 11 September 2021 and arrive at the Edinburgh Playhouse on September 27.
Tickets are already on sale for the 35 date tour which will open at the Glasgow King’s 11 – 18 September before going to His Majesties Aberdeen 20 – 25 September and the Edinburgh Playhouse 27 September to 2 October. Later in the tour tt drops by Eden Court in Inverness, from 30 November to 4 December.
Day is joining the previously announced Faye Brookes who will play Roxie Hart, the housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her, in the musical set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of Chicago in the 1920s.
Day’s character is Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer, Billy Flynn, who transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today’s tabloids.
Sinitta is playing Mama Morton, the easily bribable matron of the women’s block in the Cook County Jail, with Djalenga Scott as Roxie’s cell mate Velma Kelly and Divina De Campo as sympathetic tabloid columnist Mary Sunshine. Joel Montague will play Roxie’s patsy of a husband, Amos Hart.
Razzle Dazzle
Chicago is based on a play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, with a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. Chicago’s score includes show-stoppers Razzle Dazzle, Cell Block Tango, and the smokey, sultry, All That Jazz. Winner of six Tonys, two Oliviers and a Grammy, it is the longest running American musical in Broadway and West End history.
