Comedian returns to EdFringe

Craig Ferguson is to perform Hobo Fabulous, his first UK stand-up show for 25 years, at the Playhouse during EdFringe 2019.

The comedian, who made his name as Bing Hitler at the fringe in 1986, is performing a one night stand at the 3,000 seat Playhouse on Sunday August 11. Click here for tickets.

Ferguson was last at the Fringe in 2017, when he recorded his live radio show at the Gilded Balloon’s Rose Street Theatre. The 2019 show Hobo Fabulous promises “100% all-new material” and is once again promoted by Gilded Balloon.

Of his return to Edinburgh, Ferguson said: “what the world needs now more than ever is an ageing, unhinged vagrant travelling from place to place ranting nonsense into a microphone!”

The Glasgow-born and Cumbernauld-raised comedian, actor and writer’s first performances were as a drummer in punk band The Bastards from Hell, later renamed the Dreamboys. Peter Capaldi was the singer and Ferguson nicked his Bing Hitler name for his comedy parody of a Scottish folk singer.

Ferguson moved to America in 1994 after being spotted by an American agent at that year’s Fringe. In 1996 he landed a major part on the Drew Carey Show, and when that finished in 2004 he took over CBS’s The Late Late Show.

Peabody Award

The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson set all-time viewer records during his ten-year run, which earned him a Primetime Emmy nomination and the 2009 Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting for his interview with Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Besides his TV show, Ferguson’s stand-up has earned him two Grammy nominations for Best Comedy Album – thanks to his original stand-up recordings, Craig Ferguson: Just Being Honest and I’m Here to Help.

He has performed all over the US, including New York City’s Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall. He also received a Grammy nomination for Best Spoken Word on behalf of his New York Times bestselling memoir American On Purpose.

His new book, Riding the Elephant: A Memoir of Altercations, Observations and Humiliations, will be released on May 7 2019.
