Strange Town’s Dr Korczak adds a show

Strange Town has added an extra performance to its run of Dr Korczak’s Example at the Just Festival at St John’s.

The company is also to stage three performances of its co-production with Active Inquiry’s Flashback Drama Group, Overtime: Stories of work in Leith in 2018 at the Out of the Blue Drill Hall at the end of the month.

Due to high demand for tickets to Dr Korczak’s Example by David Greig, the company is staging a second performance on Tuesday 7 August at 9.15pm, following the earlier show at 7.15pm. There are two further performances later in the week, on Friday 10 and Saturday 11, both at 7.15pm.

Dr Korczak was a Polish doctor and writer who passionately championed every child’s right to freedom, respect and love. Greig’s script is set in 1942 in the final days of an orphanage in the Jewish ghetto of Warsaw, where food is scarce, tempers rise and everyone wants to survive.

It tells the powerful tale of Korczak’s refusal to abandon the young people in his care, and focuses on the human need for respect and hope, even in the face of injustice.

Overtime: Stories of work in Leith in 2018 will play Out of the Blue from Wednesday 22 to Friday 24 August. It is not listed in the Fringe brochure.

Set on Leith Walk, a lollipop man and a homeless woman watch the thousands of people going about their daily routines – hiding in the toilet, answering emails at 2am or struggling to make ends meet. Is the money worth the effort?

Overtime continues the successful partnership between Active Inquiry’s Flashback Drama Group and Strange Town Young Company and is devised by the cast based on their experiences of work today.
