King’s Bat Call for Andy
Bat Signal lights the sky for Andy Gray
The techies and staff at the King’s Theatre are sending out the Bat Signal tonight, Monday 1 February 2021, and tomorrow, in honour and in the memory of the great Andy Gray.
The very special tribute to the much-loved panto star comes ahead of his funeral which will take place on Tuesday 2 February 2021, following his death from Covid-19 on January 18.
Andy was a massive Batman fan – it often seemed that a Batman t-shirt was his only choice of apparel; he reportedly had a major collection of Batman memorabilia at his home; he wore a Batman dressing gown back stage in the panto; and you could tell his Social Media posts from the Batman logo on his avatars.
His friend and colleague Grant Stott went along to see the tribute for himself and kindly agreed to let us use his images on the website.
It is hard to think about Andy with anything but affection and cheer. Following two years when he was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer but survived, it feels unreal that he has now died.
Everyone at All Edinburgh Theatre sends love to all the many, many people who will be thinking of Andy over the coming days. The panto will never be the same without him. Life will not be the same without him.
ENDS
I can’t believe that Andy has gone. My husband and I went every year to the panto. We loved the whole cast, I loved him in River City.
My heart goes out to his partner Tamara Kennedy, I know exactly what she is going through.
John and I went to the panto and then to the Allan Stewart show. Sadly, John died from the virus on 7th April. Will you tell Grant Stott, he was a big Hibs fan. They will both be missed terribly.
