Les Mis for Festival
Broadway production of Les Miserables coming Jan 2019
Cameron Mackintosh’s Broadway production of Boublil and Schönberg’s musical Les Miserables is to play Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre as part of a UK tour opening at the Curve Leicester in November 2018.
This is the first UK tour of Les Miserables in a decade. The production will play the Festival theatre for four weeks, from Tuesday 22 January to Saturday 16 February 2019, with tickets going on sale straight away to Festival Theatre Friends. Tickets will go on general sale on March 12.
Announcing the tour, Cameron Mackintosh said: “Since I first conceived the new production of Les Misérables to celebrate the shows 25th anniversary in 2009, this production has taken the world by storm – more than matching the success of the original, which can now only be seen in London.
“I am thrilled that modern audiences have embraced this production as Les Mis for the 21st century and it is playing to packed houses all over the world in many languages. It also inspired the hugely successful movie version starring Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Eddie Redmayne.”
The new staging has scenery designed by Matt Kinley inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo. It is directed by Laurence Connor and James Powell with costumes by Andreane Neofitou.

Mackintosh added: “This latest version comes hot from its recent Broadway triumph (now once again on a sell-out tour of North America) and is even more spectacular than the original.
“I am very proud that this extraordinary Boublil and Schönberg musical remains as fresh, thrilling and exciting as ever – and people are still storming the barricades for a ticket.”
Booking for the Festival Theatre is already open to members of the Edinburgh Festival Cities Theatres Trust friends scheme who can get 20% off tickets for the 22, 23, 24, 29 & 30 January performances if they book before Monday 12 March 2018.
Tickets will go on sale to groups (more than eight people) on Monday 5 March 2018 at 11am. Groups can only be booked over the phone and can get £4 off on Tuesday to Thursday performances.
Tickets will go on general sale on Monday 12 March at 10am.
The production will also tour to Dublin and Manchester with more dates and casting to be announced.
