Annual opportunity to join youth company

The Lothian Youth Arts & Musicals Company, LYAMC, has moved its annual auditions this Sunday 14 January 2018 to St Andrew’s Church, Clermiston.

The main objective of LYAMC is to “make musical theatre fun for 120 youngsters aged 8 to 25”. Following the auditions, it will stage a concert style production in April and a full scale musical in September.

This will be the only opportunity this year to join LYAMC, which was founded in 1998 and is is one of Scotland’s leading amateur youth musical companies.

Recent productions have included High School Musical in September 2017 (Æ review: ★★★☆☆ Packed) and Seussical the Musical in 2016 (Æ review: ★★★☆☆ Wordy up).

This year’s auditions will take place on at St Andrew’s Church, Clermiston. There is no need to pre-book, but auditionees should turn up in good time for registration, which opens at 1pm. Auditions will start at 1.30pm, running through to between 3.30 and 5pm.

There is no need to prepare a specific piece in advance. All auditionees will be taught a song and a dance during a short workshop session. The dance will then be performed in small groups. Auditionees will then be called in small groups or individually to sing in front of the production team audition panel.

Decisions will be made following all auditions and everyone will be notified by email if they have successfully gained a place in LYAMC.

LYAMC warn that there is no space for parents to wait at the auditions, but that they will contact parents when their children are finished.
