Post-Valentine erotica for VPT
Village Pub Theatre swings by with erotic theme

The thrill of erotica in many and varied styles and outfits is to be the theme for this week’s Village Pub Theatre, with details revealed here on Æ for the first time.
Writers who are rising to the challenge and moistening their quills in anticipation of this Wednesday (19 Feb)’s performances include special guests Sylvia Dow and Ellie Stewart. They will be joining regulars James Ley, Colin Bell, Sophie Good and Louise Knowles.
Caitlin Skinner, VPT’s artistic director, is helming the evening, which starts at 8pm. She will be bringing it off with actors Alan Mackenzie, Belle Jones, Kim Gerrard and Paul Cunningham.
“The pieces vary in length, style and the degree to which they’ve bound themselves to the theme,” Skinner told Æ. “In Ellie’s micro-short play we meet a couple who might be shaking things up, splitting up, playing games or all of the above?
“Colin brings sexual politics into the classroom and finds an imaginative use for those old school radiators. James takes us to Nice and explores the unconventional erotic fantasies of a widow and a young stranger. Louise presents two shorts called Beginning and End and looks at the erotic world through the eyes of a young couple and a very old lady.
Salivating home baking
“Sophie’s play takes the couple at the heart of it into a salubrious establishment where a frank conversation and an awkward proposition strip back the layers of a once-secretive marriage. These are just some of the scenarios that we’ll be musing on Wednesday night.”
Sophie Good, who produces VPT as well as being one of the writers, adds: “We’ve really used erotica as an opportunity to try something new and we think it will be a fun and seductive experience. The usual selection of salivating home baking will – of course – be available.”
The following month’s offering from VPT, scheduled for 14 March will a ‘New voices’ night, working with writers who have never done VPT before. While VPT will be at the Traverse in April. More details of which will be released soon.
