The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart, the pub-set, site-specific hit by David Greig and Wils Wilson for the National Theatre of Scotland is to play limited dates at Edinburgh’s Assembly Roxy theatre this March.

Arriving home from the NTS’s longest international tour to date – spanning four continents, nine countries and 46 different venues – Prudencia Hart will play venues in Glasgow, Perth and Edinburgh from March 7 to 30, as part of the company’s “Dear Scotland” 2014 season.

The show invites its audience to share a lock-in, for an evening of supernatural storytelling, music and theatre inspired by the Border Ballads, Robert Burns and the poems of Robert Service.

The whole is delivered in a riotous romp of rhyming couplets, devilish encounters and wild karaoke. It tells of the uptight academic, Prudencia Hart (Melody Grove), who sets off to attend a conference in Kelso in the Scottish Borders one wintry morning.

As the snow begins to fall, little does Prudencia – or the audience – know who or what awaits her there as her dreamlike journey of self-discovery unfolds among and around them. The ensemble production also features composer Alasdair Macrae with Annie Grace, David McKay and Paul McCole.

Director Wils Wilson says, “It’s truly wonderful that The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart is coming back home to tour Scotland again in 2014.  The audience plays such a big part in the show that every performance is different, a challenge, a new encounter.”

The tour is being sponsored by Benromach Single Malt Whisky, allowing every over-18 audience member to share a dram of Benromach during the show.

The show plays the Roxy, Tue 18 – Sat 22 March 2014.
