Showcase returns with George Michael tribute

This year’s Showcase production, opening at the Church Hill Theatre from Tuesday 26 September 2017, will feature a tribute to George Michael among the mix of hits from rock, pop and musicals.

This will Showcase’s 27th year of raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, and the company has now collected over £260,000 for the charity.

The all-new production will feature a cast of over 50 singers directed by Andy Johnston and a 14 strong live band under the baton of MD David McFarlane. Claire Smith is once again in charge of choreography.

The company is, as always, keeping a tight guard on the actual choice of music, but have let slip that the musicals represented in this year’s production include songs from Ragtime, alongside modern Broadway tunes from Dreamgirls, Jersey Boys, Hamilton “and many more!”.

The tribute to the late, great George Michael promises no less than eight of the number one hits the singer had either with Wham or in his solo career.

Films featured in the mix include Lala Land and Trolls, there will be a tribute to Billy Joel and songs from such modern divas as Lady Gaga, Emeli Sande and Little Mix.

entertaining and professional

The company was started by John Wright and Bobby Harvey in 1985 to raise money for charity using the musical skills and talents of some of the best “non-professional” performers in Edinburgh and the surrounding area. The aim was, and still is, to produce a highly entertaining and professional show incorporating a wide variety of musical styles.

Since 1991 Showcase has performed an annual show in the Church Hill Theatre with Macmillan Cancer Support as its chosen charity. The amount of money raised and promotion of Macmillan means that the charity considers the company to be one of its major supporters within the Lothians and Scotland.
