Grant signs up for Radio Scotland

Grant Stott is joining BBC Radio Scotland to present new comedy and music shows later this year, once the theatre tour of his solo show, Tales from Behind the Mic is over.

He will be working on a new comedy quiz programme, Stop The Press – when satirical panel show Breaking The News takes its summer break – and a new music show that will air on Sunday afternoons in the summer.

Stott confirmed to Æ that there there will be: “no return to Forth for now”, having quit his daytime slot with the independent radio station in January, after 27 years with the station.

He said: “The flexibility of working with the BBC fits perfectly with all my other bits and bobs these days; like the tour which I’m loving. There’s been great reaction to the new stuff and I’ve got some packed houses coming up which will be amazing. Next up Livingston!”

Besides the annual King’s panto, his solo show and the possibility of a new show during the Edinburgh Fringe, Stott has been helping out Allan Stewart with his Big Big Variety Show at the King’s.

This is a return to the BBC for Stott. He presented the BBC children’s programme, Fully Booked, for three years.

a little bit stunned

Jeff Zycinski, Head of Radio, BBC Scotland, says: “Grant has a terrific track record as a broadcaster who builds a strong connection with his audiences.

“I’m delighted to welcome him on board to present the new shows we’ll be launching this summer. Grant will be a strong addition to our line-up of presenters.”

Speaking of his return to the Beeb, Stott said: “I’m thrilled – and a little bit stunned – to be joining the BBC and the team at Radio Scotland. The variety and range of the programmes I’m going to be working on is really exciting and I can’t wait to get started on this next chapter in my radio career”.

But before the Summer radio season, there is the not inconsequential matter of a the rest of the solo tour, which arrives in Edinburgh on May 7.
