Welcome to a top week of on-stage entertainment, with two big theatrical events at either end of the production values spectrum, the second and final week of Peter Arnott’s latest, and the return of Waiting in the Wings, the benefit for brain tumour research.

Plenty, is the answer! The Lyceum opens its 2023/24 season, Sister Act is at the Festival, the Traverse has an urgent new play from Stellar Quines, the Studio has a triple bill of deaf-driven drama, there’s another triple bill (of Tennessee Williams short works) at the Roxy, and, and, and Strangetown is at at the Traverse, showcasing a work that is otherwise touring schools.

Tales of coming home unite the Traverse’s six lunchtime theatre productions from A Play A Pie and A Pint this Autumn, with the first production, Ship Rats, opening this week.

Raft of new shows announced for Spring and Summer next year
The Edinburgh Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s centenary production of The Gondoliers heads up an otherwise dance-heavy swathe of new shows at the Festival and Studio theatres that have gone on pre-sale ahead of public sale from 11am Wednesday 20 September.

The post festival hiatus continues with very little in the way of theatrical pickings on offer this week with the biggest and almost the only show in town the arrival of the big touring Broadway production of The King and I.
