Bare Threads Casting Call
Paradok issue #EdFringe open call
Edinburgh’s Paradok Theatre has put out an open casting call for Bare Threads, its production for this year’s fringe 2017.
The company, which declares itself to be “experimental without being exclusive” recently staged the Scottish premiere of The Nether, but also has a strong history of physical theatre with productions like A Note of Discord and To Breathe.
According to the company, Bare Threads will be a: “piece of ensemble theatre that explores the acts of dressing and undressing, from intimately with a lover to awkwardly in the gym changing room. Devised from improvisation, play and research it will be highly physical and informed by the experiences of our cast.”
Auditions take place this week, Wednesday 3 to Friday 5 May at the Pleasance, with callbacks on Saturday 6. They will be workshop based, running from 7pm to about 9pm. They are open to students and non-students with audition sign-up here.
“We will explore your creative potential and your physical expression,” say Paradok. “We are looking for actors who are open and can express themselves with their bodies. No dance experience is necessary, just an interest in movement.”
Auditionees will not need to prepare anything, but should arrive a good ten minutes early for the auditions and bring a bottle of water. They should wear comfortable clothing which they can move freely in and bring one additional piece of clothing from their wardrobe.
#EdFringe Week 2 Perfs
Once cast, the rehearsals will run throughout May, stop for June and recommence in July. Performance dates are in Week Two of the fringe, Monday 14 – Saturday 19 August, at TheSpace on Niddry Street just off the Royal Mile.
Bare Threads will be directed by Maddie Flint who recently directed Urinetown, The Musical for EU Footlights and Sarah Lamb, who directed To Breathe for Paradok and has worked as a movement director and choreographer on other Paradok productions.
Speaking of her expectations for Bare Threads, Lamb says: “I’m really looking forwards to exploring how we choose to cover and reveal the different parts of ourselves when we dress and undress. We can be so strongly affected both physically and emotionally by adding and removing layers, and I’m excited to explore how one action can have so many different intentions and consequences.”
