Indicative date set for Sept 14 2020

Theatres and live music venues will have limited reopening from Monday 14 September 2020, according to plans announced by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon in Holyrood today, Thursday 20 August.

Stressing that the possible changes to the Covid-19 restrictions are only indicative at the moment, she added that the venues can reopen for preparation and rehearsal from this coming Monday, 24 August.

Nicola Sturgeon also confirmed that the changes in restrictions for outdoor events, penciled in for Monday 24, can now proceed. This includes “some outdoor live events with physical distancing, enhanced hygiene and restricted numbers”.

However, she warned that: “these possible changes are, at this stage, indicative only and, given the volatility we face in transmission of the virus, there is a very real possibility that some or all of these plans could change.”

Speaking during First Minister’s Questions, Nicola Sturgeon said: “On the balance, taking into account the different harms that covid and the restrictions imposed to tackle it are inflicting on the country, we have decided that the re-openings penciled in for the 24rth of August can proceed.

monitor the impact carefully

“I must stress though that such re-openings should only happen when the appropriate guidance covering that activity or setting has been implemented. We will also monitor the impact carefully and as with everything else we will not hesitate to reimpose restrictions should that prove necessary.

“Full details will be available on the Scottish Government website but the 24 August changes include some outdoor live events – with physical distancing, enhanced hygiene and restricted numbers.”

Moving on to the possibility of future changes she said: “I must stress that these possible changes are at this stage indicative only and given the volatility we face in transmission of the virus, there is a very real possibility that some or all of these plans could change.”

She then went on to list outdoor sports events that, “with that significant caveat” can start to take place from 14 September

She then said: “we hope that entertainment sites and cultural venues such as theatres and live music venues will be able to reopen from that date too, but with strict physical distancing in place. To facilitate that these venues can reopen for preparation and rehearsal from the 24th of August.”

The 14 September dates are subject to review on Thursday 10 September 2020.
