Twitter thrillers for Lyceum stage tonight

By Thom Dibdin

The 37 twitter playwrights who have had work selected for the Village Pub Theatre’s Twitter Thrillers night at the Royal Lyceum have been announced today, Friday 11 October 2013.

Also revealed are the scripts of the plays that will be performed as rehearsed readings on the Lyceum stage before tonight’s performance of Ian Rankin’s theatre thriller, Dark Road. The scripts are available on Sophie Good’s storify page.

Twitter users were challenged to write a play in a tweet – with the hashtag #vpt – using Dark Road as their inspiration. Details of how to take part were published on Æ here.

Twitter users including playwright David Greig (@DavieGreig), writer and director Davey Anderson (@andersondavey) and actor Finn den Hertog @FinndH). Even Ian Rankin (@Beathhigh) took part and his play will also be featured.

Davey Anderson’s is a particularly fine example:
– Victim?
– Half there, half here. The foreman.
– Suspect?
– Farm hands took a pay cut.
– And he’s the messenger?
– He’s the message.
