West End and Broadway hit sets Scottish debut

Waitress the Musical, based on the 2007 movie staring and directed by Adrienne Shelly, is making its Scottish debut at the Edinburgh Playhouse in January 2021 as part of a UK-wide tour.

Tickets go on general sale this Friday, 21 February, at 2pm. A dozen dates have already been announced for the tour, which will set off round the country after its final performance at London’s Adelphi Theatre on 4 July 2020.

The only Scottish dates currently confirmed are Edinburgh (January ) and Aberdeen (February). However, advance publicity suggests that the full 32-venue tour of the UK will visit Glasgow at some point before returning to the West End.

Waitress tells the story of the eternally optimistic Jenna, who expresses her hopes, dreams, fears, and frustrations through the whimsically named pies she bakes each morning.

Dreaming her way out of her loveless marriage, a baking contest in a nearby county and the town’s new doctor may offer her a chance at a new life, while her fellow waitresses offer their own recipes to happiness.

Brought to life by a ground breaking, female-led creative team, this West End hit features a score by seven-time Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles, book by screenwriter Jessie Nelson and direction by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus.
