Art of Andalucia
★★★★★ Captivating
Art of Andalucia, from the Daniel Martinez Flamenco Company at YOTEL Edinburgh, transports audiences straight into the heart of a Spanish tablao, delivering 80 minutes of pure passion and flamenco artistry.
George, Don’t Do That…The Joy of Joyce Grenfell
★★★☆☆ Rewarding
George, Don’t Do That…The Joy of Joyce Grenfell evokes a vanished social milieu with tunefulness and humour. The show, from Arkle at the Royal Scots Club each afternoon of the Fringe’s final week, is a compilation of the work of Joyce Grenfell (1910 – 1979) – the writer, actor and singer.
The Faustus Project
★★★★★ Insane
Half Trick Theatre’s remount of The Faustus Project, in the Belly Laugh room of Underbelly Cowgate for the full fringe, is an outrageous piece of theatre – utterly fresh yet surprisingly Elizabethan in sensibility.
Blooming
★★★☆☆ Endearing
With a cast of Fringe first-timers, Daisy Ensemble brings Blooming to Greenside @ George Street for the final week of the Fringe.
When Billy Met Alasdair
★★★☆☆ Reassuring
When Billy Met Alasdair, from Alan Bissett at the Scottish Storytelling Centre throughout the Fringe, is an enjoyable romp through Scottish culture.
Piano Noir: Will Pickvance
★★★☆☆ Crowd pleaser
Will Pickvance’s new hour, Piano Noir is a virtuosic feat with plenty of ideas and a meta-theatrical bent. It is musically sound and immersive and clever, even if its conclusion fails to convince.
Dracula
★★★★☆ Considered
The Edinburgh Makars’ production of Dracula, at the Royal Scots Club for the last week of the Fringe, is an intelligent and atmospheric (if overlong) production, benefiting from some tremendous acting.
