A dozen live works for Manipulate Festival 2026
This year’s Manipulate Festival contains 12 live pieces of puppetry and visual performance, half of them from Scottish and Scotland-based creatives, over its run from Wednesday 4 to Tuesday 10 February 2026.

This month saw Pitlochry Festival Theatre launch Out in the Hills, a brand new festival celebrating all those LGBTQIA+, that “invites everyone to find new ways to look at the world, and each other.”

What’s on Edinburgh’s Stages this week?
Not a lot, to be honest, one home-grown show, one student revue and on big national tour – thank goodness for the students’ BedFest at the Bedlam.
Ulster American
★★★★☆ Spirited
Ulster American, from EUTC at the Bedlam for two performances only, is an intelligently staged production of an explosive piece.
Into the Woods
★★★★☆ Melodic
Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group’s production of Into the Woods, at the Church Hill until Saturday, is musically strong enough to overcome any issues in staging.

What’s on Edinburgh’s Stages this week?
It’s a bit more lively on Edinburgh’s stages this week, thanks to the decade-old touring production of The Shawshank Redemption, a sparkling new Into the Woods and a clutch of works in progress.
Horror show Hiatus
Edinburgh Horror Festival takes 2026 out
The volunteer committee running the Edinburgh Horror Festival (EHF) have announced that they are going to take a hiatus from staging the Festival in 2026, saying “after ten years, we need a break”.

Not a lot, it must be said. Just the two bona fide pieces of theatre for your delectation over this seven days. Both only on for one day. The mid-January doldrums really have been reached.
Rocky Horror Show
★★★★☆ Naughty
Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Show returns in good form to the Playhouse where it is playing all week to Saturday, with Jason Donovan reliving his role as Frank N Furter and Jackie Clune as a particularly pithy Narrator.
