Back to the Future for Xmas 2026

Great Scott! The first ever UK tour of Back to the Future the Musical, has been announced for the Christmas 2026 slot at the Edinburgh Playhouse, with tickets on sale here from 10am Wednesday 10 September 2025.

Based on the hit 1985 movie, starring a Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Dr Emmett Brown, the musical now flies its souped up DeLorean – in all its glory – into the Playhouse for four weeks, from Wed 2 Dec 2026 – Sat 2 Jan 2027 (tickets).

Back to the Future the Musical is entering its fifth year at the West End Adelphi Theatre, where it has broken the venue’s box office records and been seen by over 2 million people.

When teenager Marty McFly is accidentally sent back to 1955 in a time machine built by the eccentric Doc Brown, he disrupts the space-time continuum and must race against the clock to put things right – and get back to the future.

The musical features original music by multi-Grammy winners Alan Silvestri (Avengers: Endgame) and Glen Ballard (Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror), alongside hit songs from the movie including The Power of Love, Johnny B. Goode, Earth Angel and Back in Time.

UK Tour dates

The UK tour will set out from the Bristol Hippodrome (Thurs 8 Oct – Sat 21 Nov 2026: tickets), hit Edinburgh for Christmas and then fly off to the Liverpool Empire (Tue 12 Jan – Sat 6 Feb 2027: tickets); Milton Keynes Theatre (Tue 9 – Sat 27 Feb 2027: tickets), Sunderland Empire (Tue 13 April – Sat 8 May 2027: tickets) and the Mayflower Southampton (Tue 8 Jun – Sat 3 Jul 2027: tickets).

Announcing the UK tour, lead producer Colin Ingram said: “I’m so delighted that the DeLorean will be travelling 88 mph to all the main theatre cities in the UK so that we can bring this heartfelt spectacle of a show to those who haven’t seen it in the West End or want to see it again.

“Great Scott! Audiences are going to have such a fun and thrilling ride in a show which will tour in all its glory and be one of the biggest sets to come out on the road.”

Back to the Future the Musical is directed by Tony Award-winning director John Rando with the multi Tony and Olivier Award-winning design team of Tim Hatley (set and costume design), Chris Bailey (choreography), Chris Fisher (Illusions), Tim Lutkin and Hugh Vanstone (lighting), Gareth Owen (sound) and Finn Ross (video).

Musical supervision and arrangements are by Nick Finlow. Orchestrations are by Ethan Popp and Bryan Crook, with dance arrangements by David Chase. Casting is by David Grindrod CDG for Grindrod Burton Casting.
