EdFringe 2025: Grassroots Theatre
Edinburgh-made theatre by grassroots companies at EdFringe 2025
Grassroots companies of one kind or another make up the majority of theatre made in Edinburgh, with an amazing, although quite frankly unwieldy (in listings terms), 81 different productions.
This is a hugely diverse group of creatives and reflect the diverse nature of the theatre community in Edinburgh. The line between a grassroots and professional company is hard to gauge from afar, so if you are listed below and think you should be in a different section, do let us know via the contacts page.

There are possibly not as many productions this year which have grown out of shows staged outwith the Fringe. But that is offset by the large number of returning productions which have either had a full-blown staging over the year or are by companies who have stepped up into a larger room or a longer run after a successful try-out at last year’s Fringe.
253 #MadeInEdinburgh shows
There are a total of 253 shows Made in Edinburgh at #EdFringe this year – not including standup comedy.
In order to make things clearer, we have divided the listing up into eight parts. On this page you can find an alphabetical listing of productions by Edinburgh’s grassroots companies in the theatre section of the programme.
Here are the links to the other seven listings pages:
- Theatre by Edinburgh’s Amateur companies.
- Theatre by Edinburgh’s Youth and Student companies.
- Theatre by Edinburgh’s Professional & Funded companies.
- Theatre for children and young people.
- Edinburgh-made Musical Theatre & Opera.
- Edinburgh-made Cabaret, Variety, Comedy & Spoken Word.
- Edinburgh-made Dance
We are also proud to work with EPAD to produce and publish their annual listing of shows “created, performed or produced by Edinburgh’s theatre professionals” which is here.
