EdFringe 2025: Musicals and Opera
Edinburgh-made musical theatre & opera at #EdFringe 2025
Edinburgh companies are as well represented as ever in the Musicals section of the fringe programme, with 35 different productions – thanks largely to the nine musicals being staged by Captivate.
As is so often the case, this section contains productions from student, amateur and youth companies across a variety of kinds of offerings – collections of show tunes, full blown musicals, opera, Savoy opera and youth versions of hugely successful shows.
Amidst all the regular revivals of favourite musicals, the big news musical production is Edinburgh Days, composed by Edinburgh-born Brian Spence and directed by Bob Tomson, who has big – and successful – commercial tours of the likes of Blood Brothers and Ghost the Musical.
This is still in its community production stages, with a strong cast of local performers and choreography by Caroline Inglis. But the creatives clearly feel that this “Celtic Musical” has potential.
And then at the other end of the scale, you have the inimitable Dan Collins, returning to the Free Fringe with his parody take on the cult Science Fiction epic novel, with Dune! The Musical! Spicy, no doubt.
253 #MadeInEdinburgh shows
There are a total of 253 shows Made in Edinburgh at EdFringe this year – not including standup comedy and one-off talk shows.
In order to make things clearer, we have divided the listing up into eight parts. On this page you can find an alphabetical listing of productions by Edinburgh companies in the Musical Theatre & Opera section of the programme.
Here are the links to the seven other listings pages:
- Theatre by Edinburgh’s Amateur companies.
- Theatre by Edinburgh’s Grassroots companies.
- Theatre by Edinburgh’s Youth and Student companies.
- Theatre by Edinburgh’s Professional & Funded companies.
- Theatre for children and young people.
