Edinburgh-made youth and student theatre at #EdFringe 2026

There is a slight reduction in the number of youth and student theatre companies this year, partly down to the reduced number of New Celts productions from the Napier University initiative. Still there are 15 productions in all.

Of course some of last year’s New Celts companies have stayed together and moved on, so are now listed in the Grassroots section. While many of the Made in Edinburgh Musicals are by student and youth companies.

We are listing a total of 195 shows Made in Edinburgh at #EdFringe this year – not including standup comedy.

In order to make things clearer, we have divided the listing up into seven parts. On this page you can find an alphabetical listing of theatre productions by Edinburgh’s amateur companies.

An Infinite Monkey Attempts To Write the Complete Works of Shakespeare: A Variety Show

Anthony and Sebastian, two horrible, posh and horribly posh philosophy students, have just killed their friend Henry. Henry’s crime? Simply being deemed too boring for these two wannabe Übermensches to live. Unfortunately for these two so-called “superior beings”, in the act of attempting to prove to themselves that they can commit the perfect crime, they’ve double-booked themselves. So before they can finish their plan of the perfect crime they have to host a dinner party with their questionable friends. While Henry is in a box. Like Schrödinger’s cat. He barges his way through her ineffectual husband, with the assistance of her enthusiastic children and autocratic brother-in-law and finds himself in the midst of a dinner party he ought not attend.
