Kev Campbell Was He
★★★★☆ Young talent

Review by Florence Cruickshanks
Kev Campbell Was He, a one man show, written, performed and produced by Alexander Tait, gives us a wide ranging insight into some of the conflicts facing young men today.
Initially, the focus is on comedy. Kev is first encountered emulating the once ubiquitous Kilroy in a series of highly amusing situations in a toilet cubicle. But the plot rapidly develops from there through some of the murkier problems facing the young man.
The result is a funny, moving, sometimes surreal story of conflict and resolution, with a scenario peopled by a range of characters, all convincingly, sometimes hilariously, played by the multi-talented Tait.
The effects of peer group pressure in a tightly knit community are convincingly explored, culminating in Kev’s career options – should he take the job on a building site which his long term friend has arranged, expecting Kev’s gratitude, or should he accept guidance from his new acquaintance (acquired through the toilet cubicle incident) and enter higher education, developing his talent for literature?
The production is admirably directed by Ivan Hamshaw Thomas, who is also responsible for the sound design, while Lewis Eggeling provides very effective lighting design and technical support.
