NTS’s Brodie Cast announced
Cast and creatives of “spicy” adaptation to open at Lyceum
The National Theatre of Scotland has announced the full cast and creative team of the new production of David Harrower’s adaptation of Muriel Spark’s The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, opening at the Lyceum in October.
This is a new version of Harrower’s adaptation, commissioned by the NTS, and developed and updated from his 2018 script, which was originally staged at the Donmar Warehouse in London.

As previously announced the production is directed by Vicky Featherstone and features Gayle Rankin as Jean Brodie. Joining them will be Maureen Beattie as Miss MacKay, Liberty Black as Mary Macgregor, Dyfan Dwyfor as Teddy Lloyd and Brian Ferguson as Gordon Lowther.
Sophie Fortune will appear as Joyce Emily, Tallulah Greive as Monica Douglas, Shreya Khaund Marshall as Jenny Gray and Bobby Rainsbury as Sandy Stranger.
Each year, Brodie selects her ‘set’. The crème de la crème of girls whom she will shape through art and politics, stories of sexual liberation and titillating glimpses of the women they could become. In return, she demands utter loyalty from them all.

Witty, seductive and swirling in contradictions, Brodie’s mythical ability to invent her own truths and manipulate her girls ultimately leads her to risk everything. Harrower’s visceral script takes a head-on look at the enduring moral fascination with such a beguiling and dangerous character.

The set will be designed by Chloe Lamford with costumes by Anna Orton, lighting by Lizzie Powell and video by Lewis den Hertog. Movement direction by will be by Charlotte McLean and the production will feature music by Anna Meredith, with sound design and music composition by Pippa Murphy. Sally Reid will be associate director.
The production will open at Edinburgh’s Lyceum on Friday 9 October 2026 (Previews Fri 2, Mon 5-Thu 8 October, tickets), before touring to Glasgow Citizens (Thu 21 – Sat 24 Oct, tickets), His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen (Thu 29 – Sat 31 Oct, tickets) and Pitlochry Festival Theatre (Wed 4 – Sat 7 November, tickets).
