NTS show wins Best Comedy

Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour, National Theatre of Scotland and Live Theatre’s raucous hit show, has won the Best New Comedy award at the 2017 Olivier Awards.

The show had picked up nominations in two categories. It was up for Best New Comedy and the eight cast members shared a nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, which was won by Noma Dumezweni for Harry Potter And The Cursed Child.

The show is written by Lee Hall and is an adaptation of Alan Warner’s novel The Sopranos. The production is directed by Vicky Featherstone with musical arrangement from Martin Lowe.

Since debuting at the Traverse during the Edinburgh Fringe of 2015, Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour has picked up six award wins and a further five nominations, including a Scotsman Fringe First, a Herald Angel Award, a Stage Award for Acting Excellence, and a CATS Award for Best Music & Sound.

The show was also among the first winners at this year’s inaugural Tonic Theatre Awards, celebrating the role of women in the theatre industry.

The win also marks further awards success for the National Theatre of Scotland in 2017. Including the Tonic Awards, the Company has picked up gongs at the Manchester Evening News Awards, where The James Plays won Best Visiting Production, and two prizes at the 2017 Arts & Business Scotland Awards; The People Award for Aberdeen community project Granite, and a Fundraising Excellence Award for the work done by the National Theatre of Scotland’s development team.
