Porty Fringe for 12 day event in August
The Fringe is set to come to Portobello this summer, in the form of the first Porty Fringe, a 12 day series of events planned for Portobello Town Hall, from Wednesday 5 to Sunday 12 August.
The event has been announced by local producer Stage Door Entertainment under the slogan “Your Summer. Your Neighbourhood. Your Fringe.” The company is hoping that a “vibrant mix” of local groups and individuals will take part.
Stage Door was set up by Tommy Travers and Aidan O’Brien in 2023 and is best known for running local workshops and staging community-based productions at Portobello Town Hall, as well as the Porty Panto.
Announcing the event, Stage Door said: “We’re looking forward to filling a feel-good programme of shows, live music, comedy, spoken word, conversation, musical theatre, and family fun, and we can’t wait to work with local artists and performers to bring Porty Fringe to life!
magical moments
“As the Fringe buzzes across the city, Porty brings its own stage to the celebration – right on your doorstep. Expect lively crowds, unforgettable performances, and something new around every corner. From laugh-out-loud comedy to toe-tapping concerts and magical moments for kids, this is your summer, your neighbourhood, your Fringe.”
Events will be held in Portobello Town Hall’s 240 seat (300 standing) main hall, which has a 270 seat balcony. The building is equipped with lighting and sound facilities, as well as bars, dressing rooms and limited storage space.
The company have yet to publicly set out their financial model for participants, but state in their application form that details of box office split and agreed percentage shares will be discussed with applicants at the next stage.
“We’re looking for a vibrant mix of shows to bring the festival to life – from children’s performances and family-friendly acts to musicals, comedy, theatre, dance, and live music,” according to the launch statement.
celebration of talent
“Whether you’re an emerging artist or an experienced performer, we welcome creativity in all its forms. If you’ve got a show, a set, or something unique to share, we’d love to hear from you – come be part of an exciting and diverse celebration of talent.”
