What’s on Edinburgh’s stages this week?
The start of this Autumn’s mini-season of lunchtime theatre at the Traverse is the big news in a week when not a lot is happening. It opens with Ship Rats by Alice Clark.
PPP: Ship Rats
★★★☆☆ Energetic
Ship Rats by Alice Clark, the first in the latest series of A Play, A Pie and A Pint at the Traverse (co-presented with Òran Mór) is a pacy and intriguing work. There are undoubtedly problems with the play, but the vigour and acuity of the production go a long way towards compensating for them.
PPP: The Spark
★★★★☆ Fiery
The Spark by Kathy McKean, the final offering in the current Traverse run of Oran Mor’s Play, Pie and a Pint, is a clever and compelling piece of theatre.

There is an undeniable force to Aodhan Gallagher’s Write-Off, the latest Play, Pie and a Pint at the Traverse, presented by Oran Mor in association with Dundee Rep.

★★☆☆☆ Committed
Burning Bright, Oran Mor’s latest A Play, A Pie and A Pint at the Traverse, features impressive performances and confident staging in the service of vital themes. However, it never quite fuses together into a persuasive whole.

★★★☆☆ Thoughtful
Until It’s Gone, the first in the new Traverse season of Oran Mor’s A Play, A Pie and A Pint at the Traverse, is a downbeat, thoughtful work.

What’s on Edinburgh’s Stages this week…
It’s a week of fierce performances on Edinburgh’s stages, with the return of lunchtime theatre to the Traverse while the Edinburgh students do the heavy theatrical lifting with their interpretations of two hefty works.
Traverse Springs delights
New play and six PPPs added to Traverse’s Spring season
The Traverse has announced the first new productions of its sixtieth year in operation and a new season of lunchtime theatre, along with the appointment of a new Chair and two new trustees to sit on the board.
PPP: Jinnistan
★★★★☆ Frightening
Jinnistan by Taqi Nazeer is the last in the current season at the Traverse of Oran Mor’s Play, Pie and a Pint. In many ways, they have saved the best till last.
Crocodile Rock
★★★☆☆ Strong performance
Crocodile Rock – at the Traverse for one performance only – is an affecting and well-judged piece of musical theatre, that only suffers from being stretched a little too far.
