Panto and ballet to close on Christmas Eve
The King’s panto Sleeping Beauty and Scottish Ballet’s The Nutcracker at the Festival Theatre will close on Christmas Eve, cancelling all remaining performances, as Nicola Sturgeon limits theatre audiences to 200 and re-imposes one metre social distancing.

Familiar routines, eye-catching gimmicks and cheeky swagger are naturally present in Sleeping Beauty, this year’s pantomime at the King’s. And if something is unsurprisingly missing, it does pretty well in making up for it.

Edinburgh’s panto triumvirate may be no more, but there will be a Gray on stage at the King’s this year, when panto giants Grant Stott and Allan Stewart are joined by Clare Gray in Sleeping Beauty.

When Beauty takes to the stage in the Edinburgh People’s Theatre production of The Sleeping Beauty at the end of this week, it will be in the role in which she made her panto debut aged just nine months.
