Trainspotting tour cancelled
Trainspotting The Musical cancels tour
The UK tour of Trainspotting The Musical has been cancelled due to poor ticket sales, with one cast member reported to say: “If you can only sell 19% in Edinburgh, you’re fu**ed”.
Irvine Welsh’s adaptation of his own best-selling debut novel with new songs with co-written with Stephen McGuinness, will now close after its London run. See preview here. Any ticket holders will be contacted by the point of sale for a refund.
The production was due to play Edinburgh Playhouse (Mon 19 – Sat 24 Oct 2026), His Majesty’s Aberdeen (Mon 11 – Sat 16 Jan 2027), Dunfermline Alhambra (Mon 1 – Sat 6 March 2027), Glasgow Theatre Royal (Mon 15 – Sat 20 March 2027) and return to the Edinburgh Playhouse (Mon 22 – Sat 27 March 2027).
Trainspotting Live
Trainspotting fans in Edinburgh over the Fringe can still see the King’s Head and In Your Face production of Trainspotting Live, presented by Seabright Live, which is playing the Pleasance at EICC (Venue 153) from Thurs 6 to Sun 30 August. Tickets here.
Trainspotting Live uses Harry Gibson’s adaptation to put you in the heart of the action in a version originally produced by Edinburgh’s In Your Face Theatre. Since its debut at Out of the Blue in 2013, as simply Trainspotting, it has been cut back from two and half hours (including a pre-show rave) to a slick 80 minute production.
