The Last Witch
★★★★☆ Hard as rock:
There is a visceral compulsion to Pitlochry Festival Theatre and Firebrand’s The Last Witch at the Traverse. While apparently telling of a disappeared world, its evocations of fears, suspicions and power imbalances are worryingly contemporary.

The Match Box
★★★☆☆ Slow burn:
Matches are resolutely old-school and capable of being taken for granted, but are just as capable of flaring into life as they always were. Which is pretty much the case with Firebrand’s The Match Box, at the Traverse until Saturday.

Outlying Islands
✭✭✭✩✩ Too grounded:
A fascinating exploration of human impulses lies behind Outlying Islands at the Traverse, but the uneven quality of some of the production means that it falls short.
