Mairi Campbell: Pulse
★★★★☆ Creative and Captivating:
Mairi Campbell’s transcendental one-woman show, Pulse, brings a vibrant energy to the Scottish Storytelling Centre.
Leaf by Niggle
★★★★☆ Imaginative:
Richard Medrington and the Puppet State Theatre Company bring a charming staging of Tolkien’s minor work Leaf by Niggle to the Scottish Storytelling Centre.
Robert Burns: Rough Cut
★★★☆☆ Engaging:
Robert Burns: Rough Cut, appearing again at the Scottish Storytelling Centre, brings to life the titular poet at his most expressive and intense.
Distortion
★★★☆☆ Promising:
Distortion by Explosive Arts, while in many ways unassuming, has much to recommend it in terms of realism and the experience it gives its young cast.
Lost in Translation: A Bilingual Journey
★★★☆☆ Lively but unorganised:
Edinburgh-based Theatre Sans Accents’ first full theatre production, Lost in Translation, brings an exuberant energy that does not always translate into a consistent delivery.
Velvet Evening Seance
★★★★☆ Mesmerising:
High production values and a compelling narrative make Ross MacKay and Suzie Miller’s atmospheric Victorian mystery, Velvet Evening Séance, a suitably haunting experience.
My Name is Irrelevant
★★★★☆ Thoughtful:
An intimate, two-man show, My Name is Irrelevant uses a series of spoken word poem-monologues to explores the ups and downs of living with an overactive mind.
Bubbles and Martini
★★★☆☆ Frothy:
Bubbles and Martini is packing in the crowds at Surgeons’ Hall, and it is not difficult to see why. It may not be the most demanding show on the Fringe, but it fills a need and certainly brings joy to its audience.
