2017 Fringe Experience auditions
Captivate Theatre has put out an open audition call for young participants in the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Experience summer school productions of Annie and Oliver!.
The productions of these two great staples of the modern musicals canon will feature in this year’s Fringe. The company has earned very high praise for its summer school productions in previous years.
The summer school is open to those aged between 8 and 21 years old and will run from Monday 24 July to Saturday 12 August 2017, covering the first full week of the fringe which this year starts on Friday 4 August.
Annie is the story of little orphan Annie, who is the lone cheery spirit at the New York Municipal Orphanage in 1932, the great depression. Despite her hard-knock life, she insists that the sun will come out tomorrow – and tells President Eisenhower as much – precipitating his New Deal.
Oliver!, the musical version of Dickens’ Oliver Twist, sees orphanage boy Oliver sold to an undertaker after having the temerity to ask for more food. He escapes to London and falls in with a gang of pick-pockets, run by the dubious Fagan and overseen by the vicious Bill Sykes.
The first round of auditions will take place this Sunday, 22 January 2017, at Fettes College. The morning auditions, running from 10am to 1pm, will be for youngsters aged from eight to 12, inclusive. The afternoon auditions, running from 2 – 5pm, will be for those aged from 13 to 21 inclusive.

Captivate Theatre is also restaging its 2016 fringe version of Oliver! at the Brunton in March. The production, which our reviewer said was “✭✭✭✭✩ Polished” will run for three nights, from Thursday 2 to Saturday 4 March 2017.
