Cambusdonald Royal
★★★★☆ Knockout knockabout
Mayfield Salisbury Church (Venue 11): Fri 3–Sat 18 Aug 2018
Review by Hugh Simpson
There is an air of freshness and fun to Cambusdonald Royal from Edinburgh People’s Theatre at Mayfield Salisbury Church.
The Laird’s Big Breaxit
★★★☆☆ Scattergun satire:
Nasty truths lie behind the cartoonish nature of The Laird’s Big Breaxit in the Library at the Scottish Storytelling Centre.
Dr. Korczak’s Example
★★★☆☆ Powerful:
Strange Town Theatre Company take us to a war-town Warsaw in Steve Small’s raw and powerful staging of David Greig’s Dr Korczak’s Example.
EH 16: Pyre
★★★☆☆ Unclear power:
EH 16: Pyre, Nevermore’s production in the downstairs studio at TheSpace Triplex is a determinedly political look at violence against women both in history and today. While at times diffuse, it has an undeniable power.
The Wizard of Oz
★★★☆☆ Colourful Fun:
Edinburgh’s Tribe Porty Youth Theatre takes us down the yellow brick road in this fun and entertaining take on the classic, The Wizard of Oz.
One Musical To Rule Them All
★★★★☆ Hilarious parody:
Take a trip to Riddle Earth with Foyo and company as One Musical to Rule Them All, Sam Eastop’s hilarious and silly Lord of the Rings parody returns to the Fringe.
Love Song to Lavender Menace
★★★★☆ Heart-warming and funny:
An important piece of LGBT history is explored in Eighties gay romantic comedy, Love Song to Lavender Menace, which returns to Edinburgh this Fringe.
Sister Act
★★★★★ Nun better:
Tuneful, wonderfully acted and with the comic momentum of a juggernaut, Forth Children’s Theatre’s Sister Act at the Edinburgh Tabernacle is almost unimaginably entertaining.
