Lyceum
Solaris
★★★★☆ Questioning intelligence:
Dealing with troubling questions about human interaction, the Lyceum’s adaptation of Solaris is – like all the best science fiction – not really about alien planets but about our own world.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Æ’s Young Critics on the LYT’s Dream:
The four young actors from Edinburgh youth theatre Strangetown being mentored by Æ during this fringe, started their critical journey with some of Edinburgh’s finest youth companies.
Teechers
Æ’s Young Critics see Summer on Stage:
This EdFringe, All Edinburgh Theatre is mentoring four young actors from Edinburgh youth theatre, Strangetown, to hone their critical faculties from the other side of the footlights.
Summer on Stage 2019
A Midsummer Night’s Dream & Teechers
LYT turn to potent comedy for this year’s Summer on Stage at the Lyceum with a two night double bill of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Godber’s Teechers.
The Duchess [of Malfi]
★★★★☆ Necessarily nightmarish:
The blood-soaked events of The Duchess [of Malfi], a co-production between the Lyceum and the Citizens Theatre, are almost unwatchably intense at times. As a depiction of timeless and timely considerations, however, this production is hard to beat.
Local Hero
★★★☆☆ Charming:
Local Hero, the Lyceum’s co-production with the Old Vic, has the authenticity and drive one would expect considering the source material, but fails to add much that is new.
Touching The Void
★★★★☆ Viscerally convincing:
There is a depth and grit to Touching The Void at the Lyceum that threatens to carry all before it.
Cyrano de Bergerac
★★★★★ Irresistible:
Visually and verbally intoxicating, Cyrano de Bergerac at the Lyceum is a riotous, joyous expression of the human spirit.
