Trilogy’s trio of Fringe Firsts
Quines get third Fringe First & Trav gets three:
Stellar Quines has won its third Fringe First for the Jennifer Tremblay trilogy of plays, with one going to The Deliverance.
The Deliverance
✭✭✭✭✩ Fertile soil:
Involving, dark, human poetry is in great supply in The Deliverance at Assembly Roxy. Stellar Quines’ presentation of the third part of the story that began with The List is a success in its own right, as well as a worthy successor to what has gone before.
Quines’ Tremblay Trilogy
Beattie to star in Quebec plays:
Maureen Beattie is to star in Jennifer Tremblay’s The Deliverance at this year’s fringe as Stellar Quines bring the complete Quebec-set trilogy to the Assembly Roxy.
Fair Intellectuals
Lucy Porter’s witty comedy returns:
Something of a sleeper hit at last year’s Edinburgh fringe where it sold out in the Assembly Rooms, The Fair Intellectual Club returns for a two night stay at the Roxy Arthouse.
The Gamblers
✭✭✭✭✩ Cleverly dealt:
There’s a boldness about Greyscale’s The Gamblers at Summerhall, as well as a timeless satirising of greed and hypocrisy, that makes it both intriguing and satisfying.
13 Sunken Years
✭✭✭✭✩ River of emotion
Intriguingly stark, elusive and completely human, Stellar Quines and Lung Ha’s co-production of 13 Sunken Years has a poetic and mysteriously gripping quality.
The Carousel
✭✭✭✭✩ Stunningly performed
Impressive production values and impeccable acting are on display in The Carousel. Stellar Quines’ production at Traverse 2 of the second part of Jennifer Tremblay’s trilogy succeeds on its own terms but does not entirely fulfil the huge burden of expectations placed upon it.
Traverse Takes the HUFF
Six new plays from Traverse Fifty writers, the sharp return of award winning Perth Theatre director to Scotland and the next instalment of Stella Quines Canadian trilogy are on the menu at the Traverse this August.
