Lyceum launches 2019/20 season

The Lyceum has announced a ten-production main stage season for 2019/20, with new works by Denise Mina and Linda McLean joining the already announced premieres of Solaris and An Edinburgh Christmas Carol.

Mina, best known for her crime fiction, will be flexing her playwriting muscles in a new gender swapped adaptation of Bertolt Brecht with Mrs Puntila and Her Man Matti starring Elaine C Smith.

McLean is writing Castle Lennox for a co-production with Lung Ha Theatre Company, based on the true history of a rambling old hospital outside Glasgow which became home to hundreds of disabled children from 1930s until its closure in 2002.

Hit shows Wind Resistance and Love Song to Lavender Menace are making a return for short runs, joining the previously announced full run of Blood of the Young’s rom com Pride and Prejudice (Sort Of).

The Lyceum will be staging its first ever co-production with Pitlochry Festival Theatre with a production of Neil Simon’s Barefoot in the Park, Jo Clifford is to update her 1998 EIF hit translation of Life is a Dream and there will be a first Scottish appearance of Barber Shop Chronicles.

golden thread of connection

Announcing the season, Lyceum artistic director David Greig said: “True conscious connection is hard won, but I hope this varied season, in all its magic, amusement, music and joyous romance, has that golden thread of connection running through it that audiences in Scotland and beyond will find both comforting and celebratory.

“As we welcome new collaborators, new stories, and new points of view on to our stage, we also open our arms to spectators both new and returning – may you find solace, surprise, humour, delight, histories known, and futures unknown. I hope they are stories you can lose yourself inside.”

The subscriber season will include six full-run shows – all except the Christmas show. Details will be announced at a later date.
