We hate all Nazis here at the Annals of Edinburgh Stage. A vile and despicable political adherence. And thanks to John Landis’ brilliant Blues Brothers movie we have a special place of opprobrium reserved for Illinois Nazis. Besides which, we love dressing up – so the news that a Blues Brothers tribute act is winding up at the Festival Theatre all week gets the old entertainment juices going like crazy.
It appears that the marketing peeps at the Festival Theatre are getting into the swing of it all too. And our favourite Head of Sales and Marketing is putting himself on the front line. Or at least the front of the theatre’s facebook page, so here he is in all his porkpie hat splendour.
More to the point, we are most happy to subscribe to a wee competition the theatre has going, to win a Blues Brothers Party Pack. Including porkpie hats and shades not entirely dissimilar to the ones being modelled by the svelte Mr Williams.
The Blues Brothers Party with the Magnificent Seven Blues Band and their famous backing singers the Sensational Sisters of Soul puts Jake and Elwood back in the driving seat, playing the classic Rhythm and Blues hits made famous by Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi. They will, and we have the publicity material to thank for this description, “belt out hit after hit – from tender ballads to rip-roaring party pieces”.
Being belted in this “high-energy, feel-good show with live music at its bluesy best” are the likes of Soul Man, Everybody Needs Somebody to Love, Try a Little Tenderness, Gimme Some Lovin’, and Jailhouse Rock. And many more. Respect.
Cutting to the chase: The Blues Brothers Party plays at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre from Tuesday until Saturday (22-26 Feb). And the competition page is here – the competition is open until noon on Tuesday.
