Congratulations to which ever member of the Edinburgh Makars thought of staging Sophocles’ bloody Oedipus in a seemingly incongruous double bill with a Noel Coward one-act farce. Truth is, the incongruity works.

Tickets for the musical adaptation of Local Hero at the Lyceum go on public sale on Tuesday 1 May 2018 at 10am. The production will open at the Lyceum on Sat 23 March 2019 for a four week run before transferring to London’s Old Vic.

There are moments in Gut – presented by the Traverse in association with the National Theatre of Scotland – where it is difficult to breathe, such is the power of Frances Poet’s psychological thriller. However, there are also stretches which are far less compelling, or even entirely convincing.
