Paradok Casting Call
Open Call for EdFringe theatre production
Edinburgh-based company Theatre Paradok has put out a casting call for its EdFringe 2018 production of Like Drowning, which will run during week three of the fringe, August 20 – 25.
Although Paradok is a student-based company, this is an open call and the company are keen to audition outside the student body. It has a history of interesting productions which defy genre and have an emphasis on experimentation with form.
E and V are women, or so they think. But what is a woman anyway? Using Artificial Intelligence to create the characters, Like Drowning explores identity, abuse, and power dynamics in contemporary society.
The company say: “The play itself is a dizzying blend of narratives and discovers new ways of presenting theatre and what Avante-Garde theatre means in 2018. It is in part written by artificial intelligence that we programmed with different language models.”
Producer Sara Harvey told Æ: “We have around six to eight very non-specific parts to audition for, so anyone can come along. The play itself is quite experimental so if you feel up to try something new and be part of a really innovative and fun production come and audition for Theatre Paradok’s 2018 Fringe show!”
Auditions will be held in Edinburgh on Wednesday 25 – Friday 27 April. Audition venue and performance venue and times have yet to be announced.
Theatre Paradok is also looking for creatives to help create a new visual language to use in the design of the play and help inspire and create costumes/set/lighting and publicity. Anyone who would like to get involved should email likedrowningfringe@gmail.com to get an information pack.
The production will run Monday 20 to Saturday 25 August 2018. There is the possibility of preview nights at the Formation Festival, July 5 to 12, and rehearsal dates will vary on the availability of cast.
