There is a rare intensity to Arlington, at the Traverse until Saturday, a new production by Glasgow-based dance/theatre company Shotput of Enda Walsh’s 2016 play, which features a young woman trapped in a room in a state-controlled tower block.

Black Hole Sign by Uma Nada-Rajah, the Tron/Traverse co-production (in association with the NTS) gives every appearance of being a big deal, including appearing in Traverse One for more than a week. And – despite some real problems – it lives up to its billing.

Make It Happen at the Festival Theatre has all of the trappings of an Event with a capital E. Even if it doesn’t quite justify that status, it is impressive.
Sunset Song

Stage versions of Sunset Song seem to come around every couple of years, perhaps because no-one has managed to come up with the definitive adaptation yet. Dundee Rep’s new version (a co-production with the Lyceum) has great strengths as well as weaknesses.

Isobel McArthur strikes again with The Grand Old Opera House Hotel, a wonderfully written fusion of farce and opera running the full length of the fringe.

Daniel Getting Married, the latest Play, Pie and a Pint from Oran Mor at the Traverse, goes ahead in extremely trying circumstances. The result is far more coherent than anyone has any right to expect.

Theatre, as we knew it, might not have made a return to the Lyceum just yet, but there is enough drama in the #TakeASeat exhibition, viewable in the foyer until October 3, to engage as performance.
Oor Wullie

Oor Wullie, the touring musical from Selladoor, Dundee Rep and DC Thomson has moments of comic brilliance. However, it never quite coheres into a wholly convincing story.
