Donna Soto-Morettini
Rat King Gospel
★★★☆☆ Uneven
Cup of Teatre and New Celts’ Rat King Gospel at theSpace on the Mile is an initially intriguing production that ultimately fails to deliver much insight, despite some fine acting.
Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes
★★★★☆ Timely
Folk’d Up Theatre and New Celts’ Timeless Tales of Gods And Heroes at theSpace on the Mile is a well-observed and subtle examination of human interactions and contemporary politics.
Things To Do in Mull
★★★☆☆ Humorous
Things To Do In Mull from Agree to Disagree Theatre and New Celts, at theSpace on the Mile, makes up for in charm for what it lacks in depth.
Corpsing
★★★☆☆ Energetic
It is always pleasing to see play titles that are clear hostages to fortune, like New Celts and Red Rabbit’s Corpsing at theSpace Triplex. However, this is nothing to do with forgetting your lines, and everything to do with actual corpses.
Sob Story
★★★☆☆ Uneasy combination:
A talented cast and bags of commitment manage to paper over the obvious cracks in Sob Story, by Pretty Knickers and New Celts at TheSpace on the Mile.
The Shakespeares – Scenes From a Marriage
★★★☆☆ Yesteryear once more:
Storyboard Theatre’s The Shakespeares – Scenes from a Marriage goes over the well-trodden ground of the private life of that writer from Stratford. Even if nothing new surfaces, there is enough interesting acting to hold the attention.
Hemmed In
✭✭✩✩✩ Too limited:
There are some highly promising singers in New Celts and Lost Lock’s all-female musical Hemmed In, who are given real chances to shine in a production that is otherwise hampered by callowness and naïveté.
