Karen Dunbar
Online Xmas Viewing
Shows to see if your panto is cancelled
Covid has caused nearly all theatre in Scotland to be cancelled, but Dundee Rep, the Gaiety Ayr and the Edinburgh Lyceum theatres have made online versions of their Christmas shows available to the public.
Distance Remaining
★★★☆☆ Assured
There are some wonderful, and wonderfully human, performances in Distance Remaining. The three separate sections of the production ultimately fail to gel, but there is more than enough to sustain the interest.
Calendar Girls – The Musical
★★★★★ Heartfelt:
Big, powerful emotions are harnessed to most glorious effect by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth in this musical version of the Calendar Girls story, which is touring to the Festival Theatre for a fortnight.
Ma, Pa and the Little Mouths
★★★★☆ Strange energy:
Reality is stretched to great effect in Ma, Pa and the Little Mouths at the Traverse. The Tron Theatre Company’s production in association with the National Theatre of Scotland is bleakly comic and thoroughly unpredictable.
Priscilla Queen of the Desert
★★★★☆ Glorious:
It’s a boogie wonderland at the Playhouse as Priscilla Queen of the Desert returns for a three week run – and proves to be in better shape than ever, with a few judicious tweaks and a brace of top guest performers for Edinburgh.
Dunbar joins Priscilla
Comic to play Shirley in musical:
Karen Dunbar has been announced to join Gavin Mitchell as a guest star in Priscilla Queen of the Desert during its three week stay at the Playhouse this Christmas.
Cyrano de Bergerac
Ol’ Bignose is back:
Edwin Morgan’s celebrated Scottish translation of Cyrano de Bergerac was given a one-off revival at the Book Festival.
