If you are hankering for a proper family panto after missing out in recent years, you could hardly do better than Edinburgh People’s Theatre’s Babes in the Wood, at the Church Hill until Sunday 18th December.
Aladdin
★★★★☆ Magical:
Aladdin is Edinburgh People’s Theatre’s 67th consecutive pantomime but there is nothing tired about it. There may be baggy elements, but these are more than overcome by attention to comic detail, awareness of what really makes a panto and sheer good fun.
Cyprus Avenue

Brutal to a point which is almost beyond comprehension, the EUTC production of Cyprus Avenue, at the Bedlam to Saturday, fools with laughter before stunning you to silence.

Antigone na h’Éireann, by Aulos Productions at Paradise in the Vault, is a reworking of Greek tragedy that has some odd transitions in mood, but hangs together impressively.

‘We are loonies and we are proud’ declare the cast of Takin’ Over The Asylum – a statement that many will find a combination of over-worthiness and bad taste.
Tom at the Farm
★★★★☆ Compelling:
The energy and commitment of Tom at the Farm at the Bedlam are more than enough to overcome some less convincing moments and provide a compellingly dark spectacle.
