The Kids Always Win, a gameshow comedy for kids age 5 and over is onto, well, a winner with it’s fail-safe formula, at the Pleasance Courtyard until the end of the Edinburgh school holidays.
Pippin
★★★☆☆ Overambitious:
There is a great deal of vocal talent on show in the EUTC’s production of Pippin at the Bedlam. However, some ill-judged staging choices conspire against the production, resulting in a definite curate’s egg.
Pomona
★★★☆☆ Mixed bag:
Flirting with darkness, Theatre Paradok’s Pomona – at Summerhall until Saturday – is well performed, but ultimately more staid than it first appears.
The Pirates of Penzance
★★★★☆ Stand out:
Entertaining, splendidly on song and given a nicely modern twist, the Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group’s Pirates of Penzance is a treat on many levels.
Guys and Dolls
★★☆☆☆ Inconsistent entertainment:
Spirited but patchy and somewhat confused, the Edinburgh University Footlights production of Guys and Dolls at the Church Hill Theatre is enjoyable but falls short of what it might be.
