101 Dalmatians musical for Edinburgh
Zinnie Harris adaptation for Playhouse in 2024
Zinnie Harris’s adaptation of 101 Dalmatians, Dodie Smith’s children’s classic, with a book by Johnny McKnight and music by Douglas Hodge, will play Edinburgh Playhouse in November 2024 (tickets) as part of a UK tour.
The musical began life at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2022. A production used puppets to portray the litters of young Dalmatians which added a “joyful playfulness” to the stageing, according to reviews.

Edinburgh-based playwright Zinnie Harris is possibly best known to theatre-goers for her award-winning adaptations of Greek classics. She is an associate artistic director of the Lyceum, which is reviving her award-winning reimagining of Shakespeare, Macbeth (an undoing) next May.
For 101 Dalmations the Musical, Harris teamed up with Scottish panto legend and prolific writer for screen, Johnny McKnight.
The new production will tour the UK from June 2024, opening in Wimbledon, and play the Edinburgh Playhouse from 19 to 23 November 2024. Tickets are now on general sale here.
It will be a reimagining of the Regents Park production, in which fashionista Cruella de Vil plots to swipe all the Dalmatian puppies in town to create a fabulous new fur coat for herself. Which can only spell trouble ahead for Pongo, Perdi and their litter of adorable, tail-wagging young pups.
Beside Edinburgh, after launching in Wimbledon the production will visit Birmingham, Norwich, Canterbury, Leicester, Manchester, Belfast, Wolverhampton, Newcastle, Southend, Liverpool, Milton Keynes, Woking, Cardiff, Southampton, Aberdeen, York and Glasgow.
